AVL Announces New President and CEO of AVL Powertrain Engineering, Inc.

PLYMOUTH, Mich., Sept. 25 -- Raymond W. Corbin takes office today as president and CEO of AVL Powertrain Engineering, Inc. (PEI), an American affiliate of AVL Graz GmbH, the world's largest privately owned and independent company for the development of the internal combustion engine. He is responsible for all of AVL's powertrain engineering functions in North America.

"Ray Corbin has nearly thirty-years of experience in the automotive industry. His history in product development and management provides a solid base for his new role at AVL," said Don Manvel, president and CEO of AVL North America.

Corbin replaces Josef Maier, who returns in an executive capacity to AVL's Austrian headquarters.

Prior to taking on his current position, Corbin was chief operating officer for Quantum Technologies Worldwide. There he directed sales, design, development and manufacturing processes of complete systems for alternative fuel vehicles and fuel cell storage and integration.

Previously, Corbin served as director of product engineering and prototype facilities at Calsonic-Kansie North America. In this position, he lead the team responsible for the design, development, and production release for exhaust systems utilized by a variety of OEMs.

Corbin began his career at General Motors, where he held positions of increasing responsibility from 1974 to 1997. At General Motors, Corbin provided strategic oversight for product development and managed a large engineering staff. He was instrumental in the development of multiple V6 and V8 engine products.

A member of the Society of Automotive Engineers, Corbin earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering at General Motors Institute, now Kettering University.

Corbin currently resides in Troy, Michigan with his wife Carol. The couple has two children in college.
