Nissan North America Donates $20,000 To Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) Education Fund

WASHINGTON, Sept. 24, 2003 -- Today, as part of its continuing corporate commitment to education, Nissan North America donated $20,000 to the Education Fund of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF). The donation, presented during the Opening Ceremony of the 2003 CBCF Annual Legislative Conference (ALC) at the Washington (DC) Convention Center, will be used to support the Foundation's educational initiatives which give young people the opportunity to achieve their educational goals.

The presentation was made by Harland Reid, Sr. Director of Government Affairs for Nissan. During his remarks Reid stated, "At Nissan, we believe when people are empowered with social and economic equity, job skills and education, communities can prosper. We are pleased to demonstrate our commitment to improving our communities through a variety of community-based partnerships and funded programs such as the Education Fund of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation."

On hand to receive the gift was Congresswoman Juanita Millender-McDonald, Chair of the 2003 ALC Conference, who remarked," Nissan's support helps to make the scholarship program a tremendous success. With the funding they give to us we are able to send many African American students to historically black colleges and universities. I can not thank then enough for their leadership in providing the funding for the future generations to come."

The CBCF serves as a non-partisan, non-profit, public policy, research and educational institute. Their mission is to serve as the non-partisan policy oriented catalyst that educates future leaders and promote collaboration among legislators, business leaders, minority-focused organizational leaders and organized labor to effect positive and sustainable change in the African-American community. The Annual Legislative Conference (ALC) provides a national forum to develop strategies and viable solutions to public policy issues facing Black America.

Nissan is made up of a richly diverse group of people, as reflected in the company's leadership team and the numerous corporate outreach programs in which it participates in the community, such as the Nissan - ETS HBCU Summer Institute, Quest for Safety and Nissan Neighbors. Reid concluded by saying, "At Nissan, we not only build cars and trucks, we build lives, changing both the way you view the world and the way you move in it." In North America, Nissan's operations include automotive styling, engineering, consumer and corporate financing, sales and marketing, distribution and manufacturing.
