Fel-Pro(R) PermaTorqueMLS Head Gaskets Prove Their Power in Drag Racing Engines

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Sept. 24 -- Add the brutally demanding world of professional drag racing to the growing roster of successes for Fel-Pro PermaTorqueMLS (multi-layer-steel) head gaskets. Fel-Pro gaskets -- "The Gaskets Professionals Trust(TM)" -- are manufactured and marketed by Federal-Mogul Corporation.

Already the preferred solution for today's demanding passenger car engines and successful teams in NASCAR Winston Cup competition, PermaTorqueMLS gaskets have provided perfect sealing performance for Billy Glidden, National Mustang Racers Association Pro 5.0 driver and team owner.

"I've relied on Fel-Pro since 1997 and these new PermaTorqueMLS gaskets have done wonders for my engine program," Glidden said. "We've run 12 to 15 races and more than 80 runs this year without a single sealing problem." Glidden uses the 1137 PermaTorqueMLS performance head gasket.

With extreme engine operating temperatures and cylinder pressures, drag racing represents an optimum proving ground for head gaskets and other vital components, according to Greg West, senior product engineer for the Fel-Pro brand. "Drag racing engines -- especially those that use turbo-chargers and nitrous oxide -- operate with very high cylinder pressures," he said. "This pressure causes the cylinder head to separate from the block. PermaTorqueMLS gaskets are engineered to maintain a perfect seal under these extreme conditions."

Fel-Pro PermaTorqueMLS gaskets were developed to withstand the growing incidence of severe heat-induced lateral motion, or "scrubbing," between the head and block. In addition, higher combustion pressures and a wider range of other operating variables encountered in many late-model automotive applications place undue stress on head gasket materials.

"Fel-Pro, as the engine building industry's preeminent gasket brand, has stepped forward with a solution that significantly raises the bar in terms of sealing performance and durability," West added.

Fel-Pro PermaTorqueMLS gaskets feature multiple layers of full hard stainless steel separated by a thin rubber coating. This design enables the gasket to maintain shape and compensate for thermal expansion and motion between the head and block. Each gasket also includes precision-embossed sealing beads that eliminate potential leak paths, ensuring a consistent and lasting seal. Select PermaTorqueMLS gaskets feature a special coating to seal surface finishes as rough as 60Ra.

Fel-Pro PermaTorqueMLS gaskets are now available for dozens of popular late-model engines. The latest PermaTorqueMLS part numbers -- offered as individual head gaskets or in complete head sets -- cover 1998-2001 DaimlerChrysler 2.7L DOHC V6 engines used in the Chrysler Sebring/Concorde and Dodge Stratus/Intrepid; 1996-2002 Ford 3.0L DOHC V6 used in the Ford Taurus/Mercury Sable; and 1992-2000 Honda 1.6L SOHC VTEC used in the Civic and Del Sol.
