Star Wheels
Classes to be decided this weekend at Goodwood
GOODWOOD, ONTARIO - The finale for the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting
Championship presented by Toronto Star Wheels is set to go this weekend,
Sept 27, 28 at Goodwood Kartways. Five of the six class champions will be
decided on Sunday afternoon.
Leading the titles up for grabs is the headline Formula Senior class, and
if there is one race that the top drivers want to win, it's this one.
Innisfil's Frank Launi leads the championship, but Sutton's Juliana
Chiovitti and Ottawa's Tyler Givogue are nipping at his heels. The class
championship lead has changed hands at each of the previous three rounds, a
trend Launi doesn't want to see continue. "It took me all year to get to
the top of the charts, I'm not in any hurry to move back down the order,"
Launi said.
The other shifter class, Formula Junior is already decided. Guelph's Robert
Wickens has already clinched his second consecutive title ahead of
Markham's Daniel Morad. Wickens and Morad will still be in action as they
are within just a few points of each other in Canada Junior heading into
the final weekend. Third in Canada Junior is Stouffville's Pearce Herder.
Morad took the title last year in the final race, and he will be looking to
defend his championship this weekend at Goodwood.
In RotaxMax, Shawn Gardner, who fresh off a Canadian National title should
be a strong threat. Gardner currently sits second in the points, just
behind leader Jason Robar. Robar, along with fellow Ottawa driver Jamie
Holtom will be looking to finish the year strong and claim the Rotax Max
class championship.
World Formula and Canada Senior will feature two drivers that have done
battle with each other all year long. Pickering's Rob Oakman - who won both
classes at the last round - will go head to head with Whitby's Justin
Mascoll for both titles. Ajax's Jason Bradimore has been getting stronger
all year in World Formula and he will look to upset both Oakman and
Mascoll. A strong contender in Canada Senior could well be Jennifer Rempel.
Rempel currently sits third in the championship and she has quietly made a
sizeable impression this year with her speed.
The final duty of the day, after the championships have all been settled
will be the picking of the drivers to attend the Sunoco Ron Fellows
Evaluation Day held later this year at the Bridgestone Academy at Mosport.
Ten drivers - that are over 16 years of age - will be selected.
Mississauga's Travis Walker and Burlington's Kris Martin have already been
selected based on their performance at the recent National Championships.
That leaves eight spots open for the final weekend of racing. Class
champions that are over 16 years old will be in automatically, and the rest
will come from a judging panel consisting of series officials and Ron
Fellows himself.

The objective of the SRFKC is to help foster a professional environment for
kart drivers; help create a positive attitude towards appearance, conduct
and discipline; help foster the employment of the best practices for the
safe and fair running of competitions; and help kart drivers to move up the
racing ladder to automobile racing. At the end of the season, eight drivers
will be selected from the series, plus two drivers from the ASN Canadian
National Championships. They will be invited to a one-day evaluation test
at the Bridgestone Racing Academy at Mosport, provided they are 16 years of
age prior to the date of the test. Out of those 10 drivers, two will earn a
full scholarship to the 2004 Bridgestone / FormulaCar Magazine F2000 Racing
Series.
