Delphi Secures New Sensor Business With the Chrysler Group

TROY, Mich., Sept. 23 -- Delphi Corporation today announced two new contracts to supply crankshaft sensors to the Chrysler Group for four-cylinder, six-cylinder, and eight-cylinder Chrysler, Jeep(R), and Dodge engines.

These contracts make Delphi a major supplier of crankshaft sensors to the Chrysler Group.

"These are Delphi's first sensor contracts with the Chrysler Group," said Guy C. Hachey, vice president of Delphi Corporation and president, Delphi Energy & Chassis Systems. "However, we also supply the Chrysler Group with powertrain mounts and fan clutches. With this crankshaft sensor opportunity, Delphi is continuing to grow its Chrysler Group business. These sensors are just one area that we can contribute excellent robust technology to automakers."

Under the first contract, Delphi crankshaft sensors will be used on Chrysler, Jeep, and Dodge engines covering the 2.0- and 2.4-liter four cylinder engines and the new 5.7-liter V-8 Hemi engine. The second contract is for 2.7-, 3.3-, and 3.5-, and 3.8-liter V6 engines.

Chrysler Group will be using a Delphi INTELLEK(TM) non-contacting active speed and position sensor for a number of their North American engine applications. This sensor translates mechanical rotational motion of a ferrous sensor target into an electrical signal that carries information on engine speed and position to the engine control module.

"Delphi was chosen for this contract because we deliver value with robust components. With our leading edge technology for engine-ignition components, Delphi is helping to develop more efficient engines while increasing fuel economy," said Sandra McCulloch, business line executive, Delphi Energy & Chassis Systems. "Delphi has a long history in engine management components and the resources to deliver complete systems."

More than 25 years ago, Delphi pioneered the development of automotive sensing with the temperature sensor to support onboard diagnostics. Today, Delphi Intellek, the trademarked name for Delphi sensors, offers a wide range of products including sensors for speed, position, temperature, pressure acceleration, and chemical applications.

Delphi provides sensors to the medical, agriculture, consumer appliance, heavy-duty, diesel, and marine markets, and is also involved in the development of micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) integrated circuits to create miniature, low-cost sensors that can measure and process data. Delphi has 167 manufacturing sites and 32 technical centers worldwide.
