Don Sak Returns to Trans-Am for the Motorock Miami 100
Bobby and Don Sak team up for Revolution Motorsports
Detroit, Sept. 22, 2003 – When the Trans-Am Series Motorock Tour for
the BFGoodrich Tires Cup cars take to the streets of Miami this
weekend, the father and son combination of Don and Bobby Sak will be
competing on the same team for the first time ever. The two did compete
in Mosport in 2001 when Bobby drove for Sr. Sak’s archrival, Frank
Cioppettini.
Don Sak will climb into the #2 Revolution Motorsports / Trenton Forging
Corvette to step in for Stu Hayner. Hayner faced time restraints
getting to the Miami race and will take the rest of the season to
review opportunities for 2004.
“The last time Bobby and I raced, I’m pretty sure I beat him,” said the
senior Sak. “Although, this time I think he might have the better
equipment…. at least for Friday anyway!”
Bobby Sak has been campaigning his rookie season in a battle with Jorge
Diaz for the Trans-Am Rookie of the Year title. Jorge currently has a
healthy lead in the points, having taken advantage of Sak’s mechanical
misfortunes.
“I’m not sure what we can do to catch Jorge at this point,” remarked
Bobby. “He’s pulled out to a a good lead. We’re just going to have to
focus on our own efforts and do the best we can. One thing is for sure;
we’ve got to finish ahead of him in order to gain any ground at all. A
win at Miami would be an excellent place to start!”
“Last year we were very fast here,” Sak continued. “The crew put a
great car on the track and Stu Hayner was leading with less than a lap
to go. Unfortunately a suspension part gave out and he nursed it home
to finish fourth. In Denver (also a street course) we ran the second
fast lap of the race just .011 off Pruett’s quick lap. Even though
they’ve changed the Miami track layout a bit, I know we can do well
there.”
Regarding racing against his father, Bobby had this to say. “This
should be a lot of fun. I raced my dad once in Mosport a few year’s
back… but this weekend has more of a head-to-head feel about it. I just
keep thinking about all those times he grounded me.”
The father and son duo will be fielding the #2 and #10 Revolution
Motorsports Corvettes as part of the Motorock Miami 100. The Trans-Am
event will take place on the streets of Miami Friday. September 26,
through the 28th. The race will air on SPEED October 10 at 9pm EST.
Revolution Motorsports in association with Trenton Forging competes as
part of the MotoRock Trans-Am Tour for the BF Goodrich Tires Cup. All
events are nationally televised on SPEED. The Trans-Am Series is the
oldest form of American sports car racing.
