JOHNNY MILLER TO MAKE 100TH TRANS-AM START IN MOTOROCK MIAMI 100
MIAMI - Johnny Miller will achieve another professional milestone as he
continues his quest for his first Motorock Trans-Am Tour for the BFGoodrich
Tires Cup championship during the Motorock Miami 100 - Battle by the Beach
during the Grand Prix Americas weekend on Sept. 26-28. While making his
100th career Trans-Am start, Miller, who drives the No. 64 Jaguar XKR, will
also have to contend with teammate Scott Pruett, who can clinch the
championship in Miami.
Miller, who sits second in points, earned his second Tour victory this year
at Lime Rock, after winning the pole. This year, Miller has seven podium
finishes in nine starts, including at the last two races at Road America and
Denver. This weekend in Miami, Miller has his sights set on the top spot on
the podium.
³I need to go really fast, don¹t I?² quipped Miller, who during his
Trans-Am Tour career has recorded two victories, 26 podium finishes, 39 top
fives, 66 top tens, and four poles in 99 starts. ³Seriously, I need to race
hard and smart, but that¹s always been our approach. I need to go for the
win to keep my title hunt alive.
³Scott is a tough competitor,² continued Miller. ³Typically with Scott, he¹s
on the podium or he finishes way back because of a problem. Anything can
happen, especially on a street circuit. We need to be ready; we need to win,
not by force but by competition.
³I¹m looking forward racing here again, explained Miller, who finished
eighth last year, despite losing power steering, pitting to replace a water
pump belt, and being caught up in a late race melee. ³This is a neat event
in a great city with enthusiastic fans. The added Motorock involvement with
the great concert line up and Club Motorock will make it a big happening.²
Miller also likes the challenge offered by the Miami circuit. ³They took
out the part that had no grip, but the rest of the track is pretty neat.
Street circuits often encompass several pavement changes asphalt,
concrete, sealed asphalt, and colored concrete which provided yet another
challenge. But we¹re up to the task.²
The Motorock Miami 100 is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 28.
The race will air on tape-delayed basis on Friday, Oct. 10 the on SPEED
Channel at 9 p.m.
