Team Yoshimura Suzuki's Mat Mladin Clinches Record Fourth AMA Superbike Championship
BREA, Calif., Sept. 22 -- American Suzuki Motor Corp. (ASMC) today announced that Yoshimura Suzuki's Mat Mladin captured the 2003 AMA Superbike Championship at the final round of the AMA Superbike Championship Series at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Ala., on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003.
"My Yoshimura Suzuki team has worked really hard this year to win this championship," said an elated Mladin. "I'd like to thank my Yoshimura Suzuki crew for working so hard all season and I'd like to thank Suzuki for providing me with a great motorcycle in the 2003 GSX-R1000."
Winning the 2003 title makes Mladin the first motorcycle racer ever to win four AMA Superbike Championships. Mladin's three previous AMA Superbike titles came in 1999, 2000 and 2001.
"Congratulations to Mat and the entire Yoshimura Suzuki team," said Mel Harris, vice president of Suzuki's motorcycle/ATV division. "I believe that the Yoshimura Suzuki team is the best team in the paddock and Mat and his Suzuki GSX-R1000 have proven that this weekend."
