ACDelco NHRA Update: Rain Postpones O'Reilly Mid-South
Nationals
Event: O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals
Location: Memphis Motorsports Park
Memphis, TN
Day/Date: Sunday September 21, 2003
For the third consecutive race, weather played a major role at an NHRA national event, as heavy rains on Sunday afternoon forced the postponement of Sunday's final eliminations of the O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals in Memphis, TN. Racing is scheduled to resume on Monday morning at 11 a.m. starting with the three final pairs of Top Fuel cars and continuing with the remainder of the schedule from today.
Kurt Johnson, driver of the ACDelco Pro Stock Cavalier, offered his comments on the effects of today's rain:
"When it rains at a race track, no one benefits. The fans are ready to watch some racing, the cars are ready, and the drivers and crews are itching to get out on the track. Unfortunately, we have no control over the weather, so the ACDelco crew will head back to the hotel tonight, get something good to eat, and come back tomorrow ready to get after it.
"It's under these conditions that experience really pays off. Whoever has the best notes, and has raced here in the past, has a better idea of where to start. In our case, between myself and my father (six-time Pro Stock Champion Warren Johnson) we have notes dating back to 1988, so we should be pretty well set. When it's time to race, we'll be ready."
