Rain Postpones O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals
Event: O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals
Location: Memphis Motorsports Park
Memphis, TN
Day/Date: Sunday September 21, 2003
For the third consecutive race, weather played a major role at an NHRA national event, as heavy rains on Sunday afternoon forced the postponement of Sunday's final eliminations of the O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals in Memphis, TN. Racing is scheduled to resume on Monday morning at 11 a.m. starting with the three final pairs of Top Fuel cars and continuing with the remainder of the schedule from today.
"Under these conditions, there really is no option", stated GM Performance Parts Grand Am pilot Warren Johnson. "Our job is to be ready whenever racing resumes. With all the rain that came down today, all the rubber will be washed off the track, requiring a completely different set-up. Fortunately, we have substantial notes, which will give us a solid baseline for tomorrow. We should be in good shape.
"However, you have to feel for the fans, some of whom will not be able to come back tomorrow. We would have liked to put on a good show for them, but that was certainly out of our control today."
