Cywinski Sets Track Record, Winning the CITGO Pole at Illiana


Schererville,  Ind.  (September  19,  2003)  –  Current ASA  Racing  Series  point’s  leader
Kevin Cywinski recorded the quickest lap in qualifying for Saturday’s CITGO/MDA 250
presented  by  Jani-King  at  Illiana  Motor  Speedway  in  Schererville,  Ind.  Cywinski
registered an official qualifying time of 19.770 seconds at 91.047 mph. on the .50-mile
oval. Driving the No. 1 Greased Lightning Orange Blast/Great Clips Chevrolet, it marks
the third pole of 2003 for Cywinski and eighth of his career. Cywinski broke last year’s
pole record set by Robbie Pyle.

Ohio’s  Robbie  Pyle  qualified  in  the  second  position,  tripping  the  clocks  in  19.894
seconds at 90.480 mph. Three-time ASA National Champion Butch Miller timed in third
fastest followed by West Virginia’s Davin Scites and Illinois competitor Brett Sontag.

The sixth starting spot was awarded to 1995 ASA National Champion Bryan Reffner with
Florida’s Travis Kittleson in seventh position. Four-time 2003 event winner Mike Garvey
was in eighth, Toby Porter and Peter Cozzolino round out the top-10 qualifiers in the 34-
car starting field.

On Saturday, the Silent MDA Auction begins Saturday at 1:30 PM and concludes at 7:15
PM. The Live Auction takes center stage from 6:50-7:20 pm. The on-track fan
autograph session featuring live musical entertainment TK Scott of Detroit takes place
at 6 p.m. with the CITGO/MDA 250 presented by Jani-King going green at 8 p.m.
