REN-CEN Gets New Restaurants ---GM Execs will never want to leave the office.
DETROIT, Sept. 19, 2003; The GM Renaissance Center is getting ready to serve up a new and exciting dining experience in downtown Detroit. General Motors Corp. and Taubman Centers, Inc. today announced that the Michigan-based Unique Restaurant Corporation (URC) will open Coach Insignia on the 71st and 72nd floors of the Marriott Hotel at the GM Renaissance Center. This world-class venue will celebrate the riverfront revitalization with great food, spectacular wines and picturesque views that cannot be duplicated. Coach Insignia will open in spring 2004 as part of Riverfront Shops -- a collection of stores, restaurants and services in the GM Renaissance Center, Millender Center and River East Center (Towers 500 and 600).
"The addition of this premier restaurant will add to the excitement at the Ren Cen and in downtown Detroit for our employees, tenants and visitors," said Matthew P. Cullen, GM's general manager, Economic Development and Enterprise Services. Robert S. Taubman, chairman, president and CEO of Taubman Centers, Inc., a national leader in retail development and responsible for Riverfront Shops retail merchandising, leasing and marketing added, "Matt Prentice has the experience and expertise to make Coach Insignia a success. The restaurant will bring back the best view of Detroit and Windsor, with a new flavor and great taste."

Riverfront Shops Welcomes New Retailers
Recently opened retailers at the GM Renaissance Center include Nextel, Famous Famiglia (NY-style pizza), Gateway Newstands with the latest magazines, newspapers and snack food, HotPop!, serving up Chicago-style gourmet popcorn and ice cream treats, and Maui Wowi, a national chain known for its fresh fruit smoothies and Hawaiian-blend coffees. Sibley's Shoes, a former Renaissance Center and Detroit-based retailer, is open and offers footwear for men and women. Gourmet Deli, currently in a temporary space in Tower 500, will open its 3,000 square foot permanent casual restaurant in River East Center in December.
Opening very soon in the GM Renaissance Center is Clippers Hair Salon, relocating from River East Center to a new and expanded location in Tower 400, followed by a national chain specialty eatery, Potbelly Sandwich Works, with its popular toasted fresh deli sandwiches, milk shakes and homemade desserts in a cozy setting. Openings in early fall also include Public Service Credit Union in the Millender Center. Later this year visitors can take advantage of Checker Sedan for chauffeur driven services around town; Best Cleaners, for dry cleaning needs; and a new Renaissance Center food court restaurant, Asian Dynasty, with fresh sushi, wraps and more. Spring 2004 will welcome the opening of Rainbow Child Development Center, a day-care service facility in River East Center.
Sam's Tailor Shop relocated from the Millender Center to a temporary location in Tower 100 in June. Later this year, Sam's will open a new store with an expanded line of men's apparel and will continue to offer custom tailoring and alterations. Waldenbooks relocated from Level A and opened its new store in Tower 300 in early July. The Coffee Beanery and Calumet Tobacco and Convenience Market, two long-time Center retailers, will relocate to new stores in Tower 300 later this year.
A new valet service is now available at the Wintergarden entrance on Atwater Street to accommodate business guests, shoppers and restaurant patrons with a minimum charge of five dollars for two hours. The Wintergarden valet service is currently open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
"With these additions we will have a total of 66 retailers operating in the Riverfront Shops, which continues to be the largest concentration of retail stores in downtown Detroit. We are pleased to continue to bring in new business and welcome those retailers that are returning to the Renaissance Center," said Cullen.
