Anuvu to Demonstrate Most Cost-Effective Fuel Cell Car Currently Available at 2003 Challenge Bibendum
Zero Emission "Clean Urban Vehicle" (CUV (TM)) Will Compete, Offer Media Test Drives at World's Largest Event for Environmental Vehicles
SONOMA, Calif., Sept. 18 -- The most cost-effective, fully functional fuel cell-powered vehicle available will be showcased at this year's Challenge Bibendum, the world's largest event showcasing environmental vehicles. Anuvu Incorporated, a pioneering developer and supplier of fuel cell products, will be demonstrating and competing with its zero-emissions "Clean Urban Vehicle" (CUV (TM)), powered by an Anuvu Power-X(TM) fuel cell engine.
Anuvu's CUV proof-of-concept prototype is an existing production Suzuki Esteem 4-door station wagon that has been converted into a hybrid fuel cell-battery powered vehicle. The vehicle is specifically designed to meet the duty cycle requirements of a contemporary urban fleet car. CUV is also ideal for environmentally conscious urban dweller for basic in-town transportation and metropolitan travel between a city center and its suburbs. The Clean Urban Vehicle has a range of 180-200 miles and can achieve speeds in excess of 70 miles per hour.
The CUV represents an unprecedented and dramatic, low-cost shift in design of fuel cell vehicles compared to those currently offered by other manufacturers. Depending on the vehicle used for the platform, the retrofitted fuel cell-powered automobile can sell for less than $100,000.
"Fuel cell vehicles aren't a futuristic dream. Anuvu's CUV is a testament to the beginning of a 'hydrogen economy', demonstrating how fully functional, robust and cost-effective a hydrogen-powered vehicle can be," said Rex Hodge, President and CEO of Anuvu. "We are excited to introduce our CUV to the world at this gathering of people and organizations committed to promoting automotive technologies benefiting the environment."
"We're excited to have not only global manufacturers, but innovative independents like Anuvu involved in Challenge Bibendum. Some of the most creative thinking and innovative developments come from smaller companies, focused on technology and the environment. Anuvu is a great addition to Challenge Bibendum and we look forward to seeing their performance in the competition," said Ron Musgnug, project leader for Challenge Bibendum.
Challenge Bibendum is the largest environmental vehicle event in the world. Hosted by Michelin, this year's 2003 Challenge Bibendum(TM) takes place in the Sonoma, California wine country and San Francisco between September 23-25, 2003, and will feature more than 100 environmentally-friendly vehicles from Europe, North America and Asia. Energy sources participating in the 2003 event include: gasoline, diesel, electric, bio-fuel, hydrogen, natural gas and liquid petroleum gas. Challenge Bibendum is one of the few environmental vehicle events that allow journalists to test-drive participating cars, comparing different technologies head-to-head over the same course. Competition testing, media briefings, press conferences, media drive and learning center take place at Infineon Raceway on September 24-25. The event culminates on September 25 with a 100-mile road rally through the Sonoma Valley and across the Golden Gate Bridge into San Francisco.
"Our car might not win the race, but our under $100,000 car won't be far behind it's million dollar cousins when they all cross that Golden Gate," said Craig Newhouse, Ph.D., Anuvu's National Sales Director. "We are here to prove that top quality zero emission fuel cell powered cars and light trucks are ready and available right now for fleet buyers and urban drivers."

Challenge Bibendum(TM) was established by the Michelin Group as an objective way to bring together and test the best available technologies for environmentally positive vehicles. The annual event features vehicles from major manufacturers on three continents and brings together all partners in the automotive world: vehicle manufacturers, designers, energy suppliers, technical leaders, policy makers, universities and government organizations.
Although many Americans may be unfamiliar with the name "Bibendum," it is well known elsewhere in the world. "Bibendum" is the name of the Michelin Man(TM) -- the ever-pleasant man of tires that has symbolized Michelin for more than 100 years. The first Challenge Bibendum was held in 1998 to help celebrate his 100th birthday. Complete information is available at www.challengebibendum.com.
