MSC.Software Helps Ferrari Build Faster Cars With Software and Services Packages

Ferrari Gestione Industriale Chooses MSC.Software Products and Services for the Development of Suspension Subsystems

SANTA ANA, Calif., Sept. 16 -- MSC.Software Corp. , the leading global provider of virtual product development (VPD) tools including simulation software and services, today announced a relationship with Ferrari Gestione Industriale, the production car branch of Ferrari Group, to provide MSC.ADAMS software tools for multi-body simulation and professional support services for the development of suspension systems for future Ferrari and Maserati cars. At the beginning of 2003, Ferrari signed a 3-year commitment with MSC.Software for MSC.ADAMS/Car licenses for a total value of more than 120,000 Euro.

"Our MSC.ADAMS product line is an essential component of the design process for high-end car manufacturers like Ferrari and Maserati who rely upon virtual prototyping to ensure the ride and handling of their cars is in line with the high performance requirements demanded by sports car lovers," said Frank Perna, chairman and CEO, MSC.Software. "We are excited to be able to help a renowned company like Ferrari build the engines, suspensions and other automotive systems that power their legendary cars, both on the track and on highways around the world."

"The ADAMS/Car features and structure allow us to have a better and faster approach to the design process of our suspension architecture, which we intend to use in future Ferrari and Maserati cars. The MSC.ADAMS tools give us the possibility to start from the component level, then a subsystem level and eventually study the dynamic response of the full vehicle," says Carlo Della Casa, chief of the Ferrari Vehicle Development Department. "Detailed multibody models and accurate DOE (Design of Experiments) campaigns enable our engineers to gain a better insight into the system we are designing. In addition, engineers gain more information about parameters which are difficult to evaluate experimentally, such as roll axis position."
