CHAMPIONSHIP NIGHT FALLS TO MOTHER NATURE RUN WHAT YA BRUNG
SEPT 20TH WEST LEBANON
WEST LEBANON, NY “The wettest season in Lebanon Valley Speedway history is
coming to an end and Mother Nature reared her ugly head once again Saturday
night putting to end a couple of the closest point battles without the
competitors being able to settle them on the track.
The racers were just completing their warm-ups sessions when the rain began
to fall soaking the half-mile racing surface. The shower lasted about 20
minutes and just as the track crew was starting to get the surface run in again
another shower put the final nail in the coffin ending the Speed’s Garage, Dick’s
Automotive, DMC Racing Products racing program.
The point titles in the Pro Stock, Rookie and Pure Stock divisions were
decided Saturday also albeit not on the track as the racers would have like to and
by virtue of ties in the Pro Stock and Pure Stock division we are pleased to
announce we will have c-champions in these classes.
The Pro Stock co-champions are Paul LaRochelle of Dalton, MA and Danny
Sanchez of West Sand Lake, NY. Along with Castleton, NY’s Rob Yetman these three
drivers put on one of the most exciting point battles in recent years. Yetman
finished in the runner up spot in the points just 4 points behind the
co-champions. The ageless wonder Jim Langenback, Scott Govertsen and Chris Crews rounded
out the top five positions.
Another West Sand Lake, NY resident Brian Keough captured his second Rookie
Pro Stock title over Larry Megan of Poestenkill, NY with Jim Cronk, Kim LaVoy
and Bill Hammell rounding out the top five positions.
Ties were also prevalent in the Pure Stock division, as a pair of Pete’s
topped the leader board. Pete Wiegand of Cross River, NY who has been competing on
the high-banks since almost before there were high-banks and young gun Pete
DeFiglio of Niverville, NY will share the 2003 Pure Stock Championship.
DeFiglio teamed up with last years Walt Schutt Memorial Award recipient the colorful
Keith Barlow. As anyone in the pits can tell you no one seems to have more fun
at “The Valley” on race nights than Keith Barlow. Jim Hankey was the runner
up followed by Rich Douglass. Bob Burl and Chrissy Hilt tied for forth with
Mike Eichstedt rounding out the top five positions.
The 2003-racing season at Lebanon Valley will come to a close this Saturday
September 20th as we present our FIRST-EVER “Run What Ya Brung” event. Gates
will open at 5pm with racing at 6pm. Adult General Admission is just $15 with
Kids under twelve only $5. Rain checks from September 13th can be used towards
the purchase of tickets for this week’s event. For more info please call the
