KASEY KAHNE MOVING THROUGH THE FIELD, KNOCKING OFF POSITIONS

MOORESVILLE, N.C.--Kasey Kahne is on the move. Starting with the Pikes
Peak event on July 26, Kahne and the No. 38 Great Clips team have moved up four
positions in the NASCAR Busch Series driver point standings from 13th to
ninth position.
Over the last six races, Kahne ranks third behind Brian Vickers and
points leader David Green as the drivers who have accumulated the most points
during this span.
After a 10th-place finish at Pikes Peak International Raceway, Kahne
followed with a 14th-place finish at Indianapolis Raceway Park. Then he grabbed
the Bud Pole and a second-place finish at Michigan International Speedway. He
rounded out the stretch with a 14th-place finish at Bristol Motor Speedway, a
sixth at Darlington Raceway and a 12th-place finish at Richmond International
Raceway. Kahne now sits ninth, a position he last held four months ago
following the spring event at Richmond on May 2.
In 26 NASCAR Busch Series events this season, Kahne has posted two
top-five and 10 top-10 finishes. He has qualified on the outside pole for three
events (Talladega Superspeedway, Dover International Speedway and Daytona
International Speedway) and in the top 10 for 15 events.
"I don't know what's different now than what we've been doing all
season," said Kahne. "We've had good cars all season and our team has been working
hard all year.
"I would say that our bodies are better, and our motors are better.
We've been steady over the past few months, and now we're starting to pick back
up. Plus, we're going back to some tracks that I've raced on before, so that
helps too. Our team never stopped working hard."
In hopes of continuing the strong run, the Great Clips team traveled to
Kansas Speedway last week in preparation for the NASCAR Busch Series event that
takes place there on October 4. The team will also test at Lowe's Motor
Speedway at the end of the month in preparation for the 200-lap event there on
October 10.
"I think that test sessions are very important for us, especially at the
tracks where I have little experience," said Kahne. "I've only been to Kansas
Speedway one other time, and that was last season. A lot has changed since
then. I have a better understanding of tracks that are similar in size, which
gives me more confidence out there racing.
"We're also testing at Lowe's Motor Speedway at the end of the month.
I've raced there three other times, so I'm comfortable with the track, but
Charlotte is such an important race to me. You can learn a lot from that track and
I would love to win a race there.
"There should be a lot of Winston Cup regulars racing at Lowe's Motor
Speedway since it's our home track, so the competition will be tough. We
finished sixth there earlier this season, so we're looking to improve on that the
second time around.
"Hopefully the next three or four races will be strong for us and we can
keep moving up. We had an eighth-place finish at Dover in the spring and
qualified second for that race, so we look to take those results, determine what
worked and what didn't work, and bring home another nice finish."
The Great Clips team will enjoy an off weekend before heading to Dover
International Speedway for the running of the Stacker 200 NASCAR Busch Series
race on Saturday, September 20.
