Shane Lewis and Mini Ready for Grand-Am Cup Return at Mosport
BOWMANVILLE, Ontario, September 12, 2003 - Jupiter, Florida's Shane
Lewis will return to the No. 20 Habberstad Mini/Nuzzo Motorsports Mini
Cooper S this weekend at Mosport International Raceway. The Canadian
track plays host to Saturday's Sunoco 94 3 Hour, the Grand-Am Cup's
eighth race of an 11 race schedule. The series ran its last race on June
29 but Lewis has not raced the Mini, for which he is the team's lead
driver, since May 17 due to other racing commitments. The two-time class
winner and one-time overall winner in Grand-Am Cup will co-drive with
team owner Tony Nuzzo, of Glen Head, NY. Lewis is yet to get the Mini
Cooper S its first victory in the Sport Touring One (ST 1) class but has
led races and taken two top-10 finishes with the car this season. He is
confident that the British built-classic will show strength at the
2.5-mile, ten-turn road course giving him the opportunity to add to his
Grand-Am Cup victory total.
"I'm really excited to be back racing the Mini this weekend," said
Lewis. "I learned a few tricks here in August that I think we can bring
to the Nuzzo car. The Mini is down on horsepower to the other front
runners in the class and that will hurt us down the backstraight. But
there are some good braking zones at Mosport and it pays off to have
excellent handling here. Those are two areas that the Habberstad Mini
really shines. It'll be great to get back racing with the Grand-Am Cup
and Nuzzo Motorsports again. I missed it and I'm looking forward to the
rest of the season. I think there are some good Mini tracks coming up."
Shane Lewis is the 1998 Professional Sports Car Racing Rising Star award
winner and is a multiple race winner in IMSA, SCCA Pro and Grand-Am
sanctioned events. He has raced in three 24 Hours of Le Mans, six 24
Hours of Daytona, seven 12 Hours of Sebring and four Petit Le Mans.
Lewis, a regular top-five finisher in ALMS competition, has earned ALMS
podium finishes at Silverstone, the Nurburgring and Portland and is one
of the few drivers with experience in the four major classes of
international sports car racing (LMP 900, LMP 675, GTS and GT). He
drives the ACEMCO Motorsports Ferrari 360 GT Modena in the ALMS and the
Nuzzo Motorsports Mini Cooper S in Grand-Am Cup.
