YMCAs and Sports Illustrated Celebrate Community Sports by Offering A Six-Month Subscription to Sports Illustrated or SI for Kids for Just $10
SI to Donate 100% of Subscription Revenue to Subscriber's Local Y as Part Of Magazine's 50th Anniversary Celebration
Delaware Residents Entitled to Special Offer From September 10-September 16
NEW YORK, Sept. 10 -- As part of its 50th Anniversary community outreach program designed to enhance the quality of sports in America's communities, Sports Illustrated is offering a six-month subscription to SI or Sports Illustrated For Kids for just $10. In return, SI will donate 100% of the subscription revenue to the subscriber's local Y.
The effort is part of SI's yearlong 50th Anniversary celebration, "America's Sports Illustrated: 50 Years, 50 States, 50 Sports." From September 10-September 16, the week that Delaware is highlighted in the issue, residents of the state have the opportunity to log onto SI.com/50 or YMCA.net to purchase a subscription and give something back to their local Y.
The September 15 issue of SI (on newsstands September 10) features a special 50th Anniversary editorial section highlighting Delaware with a six-page feature on the state including a profile on the University of Delaware's Fightin' Blue Hens football team and an accompanying essay by Delaware Sports Hall of Fame member Pat Williams, who is the former NBA GM and current senior vice president of the Orlando Magic. A 6-8 page state-specific feature will be included in the magazine on a weekly basis for 50 weeks through July 2004. Each section will celebrate one of the 50 United States and identify a sport or sporting event unique to that state; as well as feature an accompanying essay by a well-known native or SI writer from the state and a wide range of facts, figures and photographs highlighting the most memorable moments and personalities that have defined that state's sports landscape.
SI's 50th Anniversary program, America's Sports Illustrated: 50 Years, 50 States, 50 Sports, is a wide-ranging multimedia platform that is the most ambitious initiative in the history of the franchise. The grassroots effort, which began July 2003 and continues through July 2004, is a yearlong celebration of sports in America. It will include editorial coverage in the magazine and online, a community sports outreach campaign with YMCA of the USA and National Recreation and Park Association, as well as The Toyota Presents Sports Illustrated's 50th Anniversary Tour that will travel to unique sports events in cities and towns throughout the country. SI's actual 50th anniversary date is August 16, 2004.
Toyota is the presenting sponsor of the Tour; Starter and Best Buy are the program sponsors.
