O'Reilly Auto Parts Gain 45 Mbps Throughput Over 12 Mbps Link with Expand ACCELERATORs
ROSELAND, N.J.--Sept. 10, 2003--Four Times More Network Capacity Accelerate IBM AS/400 Data Mirroring While Reducing WAN Costs |
Expand Networks, the leader in WAN compression and optimization appliances, today announced that O'Reilly Auto Parts a nationally recognized, specialty retailer of automotive aftermarket parts has deployed Expand Networks' ACCELERATOR 6810 Series to accelerate critical data mirroring operations between IBM iSeries Servers.
O'Reilly which selected the ACCELERATORs for their unrivalled performance and deployment flexibility installed the bandwidth boosters as part of a larger project aimed at cost-effectively managing application availability across the company's highly distributed network. "Expand's acceleration results surpassed all our expectations - we got full T3 capacity out of our oversubscribed 12 Mbps link," said Dave Steinle, Systems Management Team Leader at O'Reilly Auto Parts. "The real bonus is with the four times increase in network capacity, we will be able to downgrade our link to 6 Mbps and save over $32,400 annually."
This automotive parts retailer previously had a dedicated 12 Mbps link, between Springfield, Missouri and Dallas, Texas, using a high availability and disaster recovery data mirroring application. However the retailer soon found that the 12 Mbps link could not transmit large amounts of data to the IBM iSeries disaster recovery server during the replication window, often leaving transactions waiting to be transmitted because the link was fully utilized. If an outage were to occur, the pending transactions would be lost - this was not tolerable in a networked operation that serviced over 1,000 stores and eleven distribution centers.
O'Reilly Auto tested WAN compression and acceleration to assess the feasibility of curtailing connectivity costs while increasing the reliability and frequency of data back-ups "A recent analyst report on next-generation WAN compression naming Expand as the dominant market leader captured our attention and soon we engaged in an overwhelmingly successful product evaluation," continued Mr. Steinle. "The ACCELERATORs have been providing their value since at negligible operational cost."
"O'Reilly Auto Parts' use of the ACCELERATORs for ensuring high speed disaster recovery is evidence of the important role Expand's technology plays in major corporate initiatives," said Pedro Colaco, vice president of marketing at Expand Networks. "With the increase in network service costs due to the troubled Telecommunications sector, other enterprises should follow this astute retailer's lead in downgrading bandwidth services, truly getting a T3 for the price of 12 Mbps."
