Terry Borcheller ran a strong pace in the last west-coast American Le Mans 
Series race of the season, held Sept. 7 at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, 
Calif.  Borcheller, of Phoenix, and Shane Lewis of Jupiter, Fla., combined for a 
seventh-place GT finish in the No. 63 ACEMCO Motorsports Ferrari 360 Modena GT. 
 Both had eventful race stints.

Borcheller qualified ninth in class with a lap time of one minute 28.634 
seconds on the 2.238-mile road course.

He started the race from the ninth GT grid position and moved to fourth on 
the second turn of the first lap, as the field tried to crowd through the narrow 
hairpin turn.  His competitors regained two positions by the end of the lap, 
but Borcheller eventually prevailed and was fifth at the end of his 80-minute 
stint.  Lewis drove the final stint of the two-hour 45-minute race.  He was 
hit from behind by another car, but held on to finish seventh.

"It was a really competitive field," Borcheller said.  "We would have been 
sixth if Shane hadn't been hit, but seventh is pretty good.  With the Ferrari 
being under-powered, I have to drive so much harder, but I like it.  It's making 
me more precise, more disciplined and more aggressive.  It's really tuning my 
driving."

ACEMCO Motorsports announced it will move up to the GTS class in 2004, after 
purchasing two Saleen S7R race cars. Borcheller won the 2001 ALMS GTS driver 
championship in a Saleen and set several records the same year, making him a 
strong candidate to drive for ACEMCO next year.

The GTS class has been the most competitive of the four ALMS classes this 
year, with classic battles between manufacturers.  The return of the Saleen will 
add a third element to the competition, providing an even better show for fans.

"I'm very, very excited about it," Borcheller said.  "It would be terrific to 
get back in an S7 with a great team like ACEMCO."

Teen Challenge

Borcheller met with members of the Teen Challenge group in Monterey.  He said 
the visit was inspiring.  "They had about 15 young men that I talked with for 
almost an hour," he reported.  "All of the people in Teen Challenge have had 
some big problems, largely involving drugs. They have an amazing success rate 
of 85 per cent never going back to drugs or alcohol abuse."
