7-Eleven, Inc. Reports August 2003 Total Merchandise Sales Rise 6.0 Percent; U.S. Same-Store Merchandise Sales Increase 4.5 Percent
DALLAS, Sept. 8 -- 7-Eleven, Inc. today reported total sales for August 2003 of $1.0 billion, an increase of 9.9 percent over the August 2002 total of $948.2 million. Total merchandise sales for August 2003 were $724.1 million, an increase of 6.0 percent over the August 2002 total of $683.2 million. U.S. same-store merchandise sales for August 2003 increased 4.5 percent, on top of a 3.5 percent increase in August 2002.
Gasoline sales for August 2003 were $318.0 million, a 20.0 percent increase compared to $265.0 million in the prior-year period. Average gallons sold per store increased 4.2 percent in August 2003 compared to the August 2002 result. The average retail price of gasoline for August 2003 was $1.66, compared to $1.44 in August 2002.

The following results compare year-to-date results through August 2003 to the same period last year:
