Guinn Dominates Spartan ARCA Truck Warriors; Takes Point Lead
LANSING MI (9-7-03) Defending ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series champion Chad Guinn looked ever bit the part after scoring a convincing victory in the United Dairy Industry Quick Cow 106 Sunday at Spartan Speedway.
Guinn, who started outside pole in his father Larry Guinn's BFI-M&M Heating-Northland Collision Ford Ranger, wrestled the lead away from Old Milwaukee polesitter Brian Rowe before the first lap was complete and never relinquished it earning his 18th career series victory along the way.
Going into the event tied in points with Rowe, Guinn also regained control of the championship point standings with just one event remaining on the 2003 tour.
Although Rowe ran second for most of the race, he was no match for Guinn who continually pulled away throughout the 106-lap race. Then with 15 laps remaining, Rowe's engine began to falter relegating the Barboursville, West Virginia driver to sixth in the final running order four laps down.
When Rowe's engine soured, John Kasmierski stepped up into the second position until the Toledo, Ohio driver got involved in an altercation with Kevin Reeb resulting in a DNF for Kasmierski who dropped from contention five laps from the finish.
Ron Wells was running third when electrical troubles sent the Riverside, Ohio driver to the garage for good 16 laps from the finish.
Paul Hahn, a half-lap behind, finished second in the Hahn's Collision-Certified First Network Chevy S-10 with two-time series champion Robbin Slaughter trailing in third in the Carmensvacuum.com Ford. Reeb held on for fourth in the Reeb Racing Ford with Craig Meyers, in his own Classic Coupes Racing Ford, finishing fifth. Meyers, who started 12th, was also credited with the Ed & Company Hard Charger award for advancing the most positions.
In addition to Guinn's winning payout, he also picked up the Cloyes Gear Halfway Leader honors.
Guinn now leads Rowe by 30 points headed into the season finale Saturday, September 13 at Salem Speedway. The event will serve as a preamble to the same-night ARCA RE/MAX Series Eddie Gilstrap Motors 200 live on SPEED Channel at 8 pm eastern.
