NCMS Completes Computing Center for Excel Institute

Manufacturing Consortium revolutionizing training environment

ANN ARBOR, Mich., Sept. 8 -- The National Center for Manufacturing Sciences (NCMS) today announced the completion of a computing center for the Excel Institute. This computing center provides students and staff with state of the art computer equipment to pursue their studies. NCMS continues to support the Institute in its mission to provide education, automotive technology training, work place counseling and job placement assistance to students as they train for a career in the automotive repair field and earn their Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification.

"NCMS is very proud to be part of the Excel partnership in providing vocational opportunities for the residents of Washington, DC," says NCMS Senior Vice President Rebecca Taylor. "Using NCMS' expertise in the management of information systems, NCMS has developed, in collaboration with Excel, a high tech resource for the students to access on-demand curriculum as well as the information technology resources necessary for graduates to enter the 21st century work force."

The computing center, located onsite at the Institute, has multimedia workstations with Internet access and also provides wireless connectivity throughout the facility. This allows for computers to be used "on the shop floor" without the need for intrusive network cabling.

NCMS has also completed updating the Institute's web presence http://theexcelinstitute.org/ and is in the process of updating course curriculum to take advantage of the latest multimedia technologies.
