FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NHRA SUMMIT RACING SERIES – NORTHWEST DIVISION FINALS NL’AKAPXM EAGLE MOTORPLEX ASHCROFT, B.C. SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 2003 WINNING WAYS CONTINUE AT SUMMIT RACING FINALS IN ASHCROFT ASHCROFT, B.C. – The NHRA Northwest Division Summit Racing Series Finals at Nl’Akapxm Eagle Motorplex in Ashcroft concluded today with four individuals at the top of their classes. Gary Hostetler, Zack Craig, Don Elgin and Mark Kosler earned the top prizes in their respective categories, as the best drivers from 18 racetracks in the Northwest Division wrapped up the exciting weekend event. In the Super Pro class, Gary Hostetler, of Vancouver, Wash., notched the victory when he defeated Cheryl Wentz, of Toppenish, Wash., in the final round. Hostetler ran the quarter-mile in 9.885 seconds at 133.37 mph, compared to Wentz’s 10.529 at 135.56. Pro class driver Zack Craig, from Olympia, Wash., earned his win with a 12.43-second, 106.93-mph run in his ’79 Malibu. Don “The Worm” Elgin, of Desmoines, Wash., won the Sportsman class, when he defeated LaVonne Goodman, of Canby, Ore., in the final elimination round. The Motorcycle/Snowmobile class winner was Mark Kosler, from Keizer, Ore., who ran 9.893 seconds at 130.71 mph to defeat Rich Pedroza, of Boise, Idaho. Racers from Team Woodburn, of Woodburn, Ore., were awarded the team championship, earning the most wins during the event. This marks Team Woodburn’s tenth Team Championship award in the Northwest Division Summit Racing Series. The Northwest Division Champions were decided yesterday during the Race of Champions. Rod Langley, John Korfiatis, Jerry Weber and Greg Westling will represent the Northwest Division in the NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif. The NHRA Finals will be held on Nov. 6-9, 2003. The winners from each of the seven divisions will compete for a national title and a purse of $5,000.
