Grand Am Mosport Release
Grand-Am Cup racing comes to Mosport
Sunoco giving away 15,000 Grand-Am Cup race tickets to Ecowash customers
TORONTO and BOWMANVILLE (Sept. 3rd, 2003) - Suncor Energy Products Inc.,
through its Sunoco retail brand, announced today that it will host race
eight in the Grand-Am Cup North American Endurance Series - titled the
Sunoco Ultra 94 Three Hours of Mosport. Mosport International Raceway is
about 100 kilometres east of Toronto (www.mosport.com).
With practice and qualifying set to get underway September 12th, the race
is set for Saturday, September 13th, starting at 3:00 pm. Thirty-five
participating Sunoco retailers in South-Central Ontario who offer Sunoco
touch-free or soft cloth environmentally friendly car washes will be giving
away two tickets with the purchase of every Sunoco Ultra Ecowash while
supplies last.
Sunoco's goal is to support the race and show support for local racing
hero, Devon Powell, who along with co-driver Doug Goad drive the Sunoco
Ultra 94 Corvette that was the 2001 Grand-Am Cup Champion and won the
Mosport event in 2002. The race is the first of two Canadian stops on the
North American circuit, and Mosport is Powell Motorsports' home track.
Powell hails from nearby Port Perry.
"What better way to showcase Sunoco's guilt free performance than to offer
race tickets to our Ecowash customers," said Patricia Anderson, Director of
Marketing for Suncor Energy Products. "We're proud to show our
appreciation in this way to our customers, retailers and of course the
Sunoco Ultra 94 Powell Motorsport Corvette."
Competing in the GS1 Class against Powell in his Ultra 94-sponsored, 500+
horsepower Corvette Z06 will be twelve other "street stock" machines,
including Porsches, Mustangs and Corvettes. Three other classes fill out
the field with an anticipated 50 race cars taking the green flag.
Last year's race was one of the closest in Grand-Am Cup history, with the
Powell Motorsports Corvette winning by a mere 5.816 seconds. The Sunoco
Ultra 94 Mosport 3 Hour race will combine the full field of Grand Sport and
Sport Touring divisions during the September 12-13 weekend. (see
www.Grand-Am.com).
Sunoco's Ecowash is the only car wash to receive the EcoLogoM designation
from Environment Canada. Sunoco uses environmentally-responsible soaps and
waxes, and ensures that all wastewater is pre-treated through the municipal
sanitary sewer system before being released.
