Delphi Showcases Eight New Technologies at Frankfurt Auto Show (IAA)
PARIS, Sept. 2 -- At the 60th International Motor Show - Passenger Cars (IAA) in Frankfurt, Germany, Delphi Corp. will unveil a range of new technologies that use electronics and sophisticated software to help address issues such as safety, occupant comfort and a vehicle's impact on the environment. "We are looking forward to returning to Frankfurt for this very exciting show," said Jose Maria Alapont, Delphi's president of international operations and vice president of sales and marketing. "Innovation is the core of Delphi and we have some groundbreaking technologies to showcase for our customers and consumers."
Delphi will introduce eight new technologies at this year's IAA including: * Maximum Torque Braking * Vision-based Lane Departure Warning * Vision-based Interior Sensing System * Next-generation Multec diesel common rail system * Digital Mobile TV Reception -- OEM and dealer-install version * Active Front Steering * QUADRASTEER for Passenger Cars * Next-Generation Advanced Energy-Absorbing Column Maximum Torque BrakeDelphi will show a revolutionary new braking technology that it claims is the first significant change in base braking systems since the first volume application of disc brakes more than 50 years ago. The new Maximum Torque Brake uses an innovative twin floating disc architecture to provide a high specific torque capability, with substantial improvements in thermal management that can lead to benefits in weight, packaging and NVH (Noise Vibration & Harshness).
Cameras Show the Future of Safety Technologies
Two of the new electronically controlled technologies, automatic lane tracking and next-generation occupant size and position monitoring, use the latest vision systems together with sophisticated new data processing techniques. Delphi predicts future growth for vision-based technologies and expects to be the first into production with a wide range of applications. Both systems will be demonstrated at the IAA in Delphi's booth.
Next-Generation Multec Diesel Common Rail
Building on the success of its Multec diesel common rail injection system, the first to provide closed-loop control, Delphi will be showing the next- generation system, due for production in 2004. Based on the proven Multec technology, the latest version will provide higher pressures, more injection events and exceptional volume control, allowing vehicle manufacturers to cost- effectively achieve Euro IV compliance. Delphi expects to meet future, more stringent emissions requirements through further refinement of the Multec solenoid-based system. Delphi is also introducing Piezotec, a unique piezo- based injector system, which will deliver a step change in economy and emissions to help vehicle manufacturers meet Euro V emissions regulations.
Virtual Thermal Comfort Engineering
The company's commitment to making more efficient thermal comfort systems will be demonstrated by its new Virtual Thermal Comfort Engineering analytical processes. Using a math-based analytical programme developed by Delphi, this technique allows fast optimisation of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems across a wide range of conditions. Specialists will be available on the stand to discuss this new technique, which can deliver a more comfortable interior environment as well as reducing development timescales and costs.
