Gamma Technologies Links GT-POWER to WERC-KIVA
Design and Optimization of Fuel Injection and Combustion Gets Boost From An Integrated Simulation Which Combines One-Dimensional Flow Software GT-SUITE With 3-D KIVA Modelling
WESTMONT, Ill., Sept. 2 -- Gamma Technologies Inc. (GTI) and Wisconsin Engine Research Consultants, LLC (WERC) today announced plans to jointly produce an integrated software product that will combine GTI's GT-POWER and GT-SUITE one-dimensional flow simulation with WERC's combustion modelling in the 3-D KIVA code.
The objective of this initiative is to provide diesel engine designers with a tool that will allow a simultaneous analysis and design of the fuel injection and combustion processes, under steady-state and transient engine operating conditions. GT-SUITE, the industry's leading engine design toolkit, already allows an integrated analysis of a fuel injection system together with the modelling of the entire engine/vehicle system, which in itself is an industry first. To this, the new initiative will add WERC's highly acclaimed 3-D diesel combustion models, to allow the assessment of the effects of injection system modifications on combustion and emissions. This new capability will become available when GTI releases the next version of its GT- SUITE V6.1 later this year.
WERC's principals include world-renowned experts on diesel engine combustion Prof. Rolf Reitz and Prof. Christopher Rutland.
"We regard the integration of WERC-KIVA into GT-POWER as a very important step. Combining the strengths of both, it introduces to the industry a unique and complete tool, addressing the whole problem of injection-combustion interaction. This product integration is designed to speed up the process of system development, with better final results, and at a lower cost," said Dr. Thomas Morel, President & Founder of GTI. "The first reactions we have received from leading engine manufacturers to these new developments have been very positive. There is a lot of excitement about the new capability and we are looking forward to working with our users to make it a useful everyday tool."
"After spending many years on research developing expertise in diesel engine combustion and emissions, WERC has been looking for a way to make the results available to the diesel engine design engineers. It has been our intention to contribute to the development of future, more efficient, and environmentally friendly engines," said Prof. Reitz of WERC. "Observing that Gamma's GT-POWER is the industry-standard engine design tool, we saw an opportunity to join our efforts and make an impact on the industry."
About Wisconsin Engine Research Consultants, LLC
The Wisconsin Engine Research Consultants, LLC is an outgrowth of the independent consulting activities of UW-Madison professors Rolf D. Reitz and Christopher J. Rutland, and research scientist Dr. Song-Charng Kong. The partnership was formed in 2001 to allow the researchers to make it easier for industry to individualize and apply technology created at the university's Engine Research Center (ERC) for use in engine design optimization. The WERC partners have over 70 years of combined experience in engine modelling. ERC engine spray and combustion models are widely used by the engine industry for diesel, SI and HCCI engine development.
About Gamma Technologies Inc.
Gamma Technologies Inc. ( www.gtisoft.com ) develops and licenses GT-SUITE -- an integrated suite of CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering) software tools. GT-SUITE, which incorporates GT-Power, is the first true "virtual engine / powertrain / vehicle" simulation tool. The product makes it possible for engineering professionals to model engine performance, vehicle dynamics, valvetrain dynamics, cooling systems, fuel injection systems, and cranktrain dynamics. GT-SUITE's ease-of-use is further enhanced by integration with third party products such as STAR-CD, Fluent, Simulink and Frontier.
