GMPP NHRA Sunday Update: Rain Postpones U.S. Nationals

Rain Postpones U.S. Nationals

Event: 48th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals
Location: Indianapolis Raceway Park
      Clermont, IN
Day/Date: Sunday August 31, 2003

Constant rain and a forecast for similar conditions on Monday forced the NHRA to postpone the 49th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, IN. Qualifying will now resume with a single session on Friday evening, and conclude with two additional sessions on Saturday, with final eliminations scheduled for Sunday.

After a quick look at the NHRA schedule, which has the POWERade Drag Racing Series racing on the next four weekends, Warren Johnson and the GM Performance Parts Racing team made the decision to head back to their shop on Sunday, to have as much time as possible to prepare for the stretch ahead.

"Given today's conditions and the forecast for the next few days, there was really no option but to reschedule the race for next weekend. Given that we will now be racing on four consecutive weekends, we opted to have our truck leave as soon as we could get packed up. In that way, it will back at the shop by tomorrow, which will give us a few days to prepare our GM Performance Parts Grand Am for the stretch ahead. It's a part of racing we all have to deal with, and we'll look to make the best of it."
