Dilley leads the all-Whitlock Motorsports front row in qualifying for the
Great Canadian 300
LONDON, ON - Just one day after winning the $10,000-to-win 'CASCAR
Challenge' at Delaware Speedway, Mark Dilley's dream weekend continued on
Saturday night when he captured the pole for Sunday's Great Canadian 300 at
the London, ON-area half-mile oval.
Dilley will start alongside of his teammate Dave Whitlock as part of an
all-Whitlock Motorsports front row. Dilley's MOPAR-powered NTN Intrepid
circled the Delaware oval in just 19.600 seconds, for a lap speed of 91.837
mph. That compared to 19.613 seconds / 91.776 mph for Whitlock's 'Dare to
Dream' Intrepid.
A total of 31 cars participated in time trials for Race #10 of 12 on this
year's Super Series schedule. Don Thomson Jr. posted the third-quickest
time in qualifying and will start on the inside of the second row. His
nearest championship points rivals, Kerry Micks and DJ Kennington, will
start fourth and sixth, respectively. The spectator gates open at 11 a.m.
on Sunday morning at Delaware, and the feature race is scheduled to take
the green flag at 2 p.m.
On Friday evening at Delaware Speedway, CASCAR veteran Mark Dilley won the
inaugural 'CASCAR Challenge' non-points event. The victory was worth
$10,000 cash to the Barrie, ON resident, who powered away from the field in
the late-going, to handily defeat Dave Jacombs and Peter Gibbons. In all,
almost $30,000 was up for grabs in the CASCAR Challenge, which featured 20
of CASCAR's top competitors.
Last year's Great Canadian 300 winner, Steve Robblee, lost control of his
car while battling for the lead of the CASCAR Challenge. The Dorchester, ON
racer rode the entire length of the front-straight on two wheels before
coming to rest with a bang in turn 1. The damage to Robblee's Super Series
Taurus was too extensive to be repaired prior to Saturday night's
qualifying session, which means that the popular veteran won't be able to
defend his victory in the Great Canadian 300.
As of lap 80 of Saturday night's CARQUEST 150 CARQUEST Sportsman Series
race at Delaware Speedway, Robblee was running in seventh position after
starting at the back of the 37-car field. Robblee was involved in a heavy
crash during time trials for the event. Robblee is the Sportsman Series
points leader and is trying to capture a fourth consecutive CARQUEST Series
crown. Richard Beauchamp, Robblee's nearest points rival, lost 15 laps in
the pits in the early going of the CARQUEST 150 and sits 34th at lap 80.
