PRUETT UP TO SPEED IN SECOND ROUND AT DENVER
Aug. 29, 2003
DENVER MotoRock Trans-Am Tour for the BFGoodrich Tires Cup points leader
Scott Pruett got up to speed quickly during second round practice Friday for
Sundayıs MotoRock Mile High 100 at the Centrix Financial Grand Prix of
Denver. Pruett, driving the No. 7 Jaguar XKR, who timed sixth in first-round
practice earlier today, turned in a 1:12.401-minute lap around the
1.647-mile temporary street course.
³ Iıve learned the track,² said the two-time champion, who prior to this
weekend hadnıt turned a lap here. ³We made a few changes, but we were still
running on 50-mile tires. Weıll make a few changes and weıll be in good
shape for qualifying.²
Pruett, who was just a tick off the fastest race lap record of 1:12.261 set
by Stu Hayner last year, led Boris Said, who was just shy of Pruettıs time,
setting a 1:12.570-minute lap in the No. 33 ACS/GE No. 33 ACS/GE Access/Sun
Microsystems Ford Mustang. Rookie Jorge Diaz (No. 8 Don Q Rum Jaguar XKR)
set the third quickest lap of 1:13.000 before a late spin into the tire
wall, which ended the session early. Johnny Miller (No. 64 Eaton
Cutler-Hammer Jaguar XKR) and Tomy Drissi (No. 5 Stuck on You the Movie
Jaguar XKR) completed the top five.
³Scottıs going to be tough,² said Said. ³Itıs hard when you havenıt been in
one of these cars for a long time. Iım just a little rusty. We need to get
another couple of tenths better.²
³We had new brake pads, and I didnıt get the temperatures up on the rears,²
said Diaz of his late-session incident. ³When I came down into the braking
zone, I locked up the front brakes. I got a little bit loose and it was in a
tight corner. The damage looks big, but there is not significant damage. In
about two hours, weıll be back up and going.²
Qualifying for Sundayıs MotoRock Mile High 100 is scheduled from 3:45 to

Trans-Am Tour for the BFGoodrich Tires Cup, will take the green flag at
