Chrysler Group Names ASC Gold Award Winner for Its Work on the Dodge Viper
SOUTHGATE, Mich., Aug. 28, 2003 -- ASC Incorporated, a full-service specialty-vehicle development partner for automotive manufacturers, has won a Gold Award for supplier excellence in 2002 from the Chrysler Group. This prize, formerly known as the Pentastar Award, was awarded to ASC's Livonia finishing facility, where ASC manages and paints all exterior panels for the Dodge Viper SRT-10. The award measures are: quality, cost, delivery and technology.
"ASC Livonia is where the legendary Viper 'gets its skin,'" said Dan Knott, Director of Performance Vehicle Operations for the Chrysler Group.
The Dodge Viper is one of the most successful "halo" cars in automotive history. ASC Livonia has painted this revolutionary performance car since 1992, providing extraordinarily high "orange-peel" ratings that are considered among the best in the world, even while handling the four different substrates -- from composites to metal -- used in the exterior of the vehicle.
"ASC is extremely proud of our Livonia team and their contributions to the Dodge Viper," said Paul Wilbur, CEO of ASC. "ASC today is all about helping our automaker-partners design and build high-image specialty cars -- and they certainly don't come any more high-image than the Dodge Viper. The fact that we can meet the Chrysler Group's exacting standards for this particular car says a lot about our abilities to meet and exceed our customers' expectations on a broad array of fronts."
Once a sunroof maker, ASC's award-winning vehicle programs today include vehicle development and sub-assembly, convertible systems, and numerous appearance and body packages for cars and trucks. Founded in 1965 and headquartered in Southgate, Mich., the company employs more than 1,000 car nuts at 11 facilities in the U.S. and Germany, and is on the Web at www.ascglobal.com
