CrossLink Ready to Address Multi-Billion Dollar Tire Pressure Monitoring Market
BOULDER, Colo., Aug. 27, 2003 -- CrossLink Inc., announces 2004 availability of its TireBoss(TM) product, a revolutionary new tire monitoring system specifically designed for commercial truck fleets. Using TireBoss(TM), a vehicle's tire temperature and pressure are remotely monitored and made accessible in real-time, via the web. TireBoss(TM) represents the end result of 5 years of development and extensive field trials by CrossLink together with a global tire manufacturer. TireBoss(TM) solutions are applicable to trucks, buses, tankers, trailers and off-road heavy equipment vehicles over 6000 pounds GVWR.
TireBoss'(TM) patented technology provides instant tire status information without guesswork. The system includes a small tag mounted inside each tire that uses a wireless link to send fleet operators the temperature-adjusted pressure of each vehicle's tire, thereby facilitating adherence to the tire manufacturer's recommended cold-fill pressure. Under-inflation and excess heat build up have been identified as primary indicators of premature tire failure according to industry studies. TireBoss(TM) draws attention in a timely fashion to tire heating problems whether resulting from under-inflation, dragging brakes, or wheel misalignment.
"Automated pressure readings improve inspection compliance and proper tire inflation extends the life of a tire," CrossLink's Tire System Director David Przygocki states. "TireBoss(TM) shows operators which tires need attention now. Considering that tire costs represent the second largest variable expense in fleet operations, this information translates into substantial cost savings."
Additional savings are realized through improved fuel economy, decreased maintenance costs, and more reliable on-the-road performance. In addition, when properly used, TireBoss(TM) will enhance safety on the highway by reducing road debris from tire blowouts. TireBoss(TM) reduces the likelihood of unanticipated tire failure caused by slow leaks that often go undetected until they result in expensive road failures. TireBoss(TM) may also be used to provide retread specialists with an improved temperature and pressure history of tires to help determine candidates for retread.
The TireBoss(TM) family of readers, including a hand-held reader, on-vehicle readers and a gate portal reader, is capable of reading a tire at distances of 100 feet or more. The gate portal reader can capture real-time information from each tire of an eighteen-wheeler as it passes a maintenance checkpoint.
"We were determined to develop TireBoss(TM) to be both rugged enough for the off-road earthmovers and sensitive enough to read eighteen different tires on a moving tractor-trailer. Five years of development and test effort have paid off in a robust and reliable system that automates tire monitoring, delivering data to the maintenance shed or other remote locations in real-time," states CrossLink's Vice President of Product Development, Jack Pyne.
