Mazdaspeed Motorsports Saves the Day For MS Benefit
Weekend
August 27, 2003: The Washington DC Region of the
Sports Car Club of America and Mazdaspeed Motorsports
announced today that Mazdaspeed Motorsports would be
sponsoring the 4th Annual Mazdaspeed Motorsports 600
to Benefit MS. The Labor Day Weekend tradition, held
at Summit Point Raceway in Summit Point, WV, is one of
the largest racing events held in the Middle Atlantic.
The event typically raises over $20,000 each year for
the charity Laps to Conquer MS.
“I cannot begin to tell you how grateful the Region is
that Mazdaspeed Motorsports is helping to support this
event,” said William Radford of the Region. Radford
added, “Mazdaspeed Motorsports is one of the strongest
supporters of amateur racing and their support of this
event helps to bring closer the day that a cure is
found for multiple sclerosis.”
“When the Region contacted us this week about helping
with this event, we agreed immediately,” said Steve
Sanders of Mazdaspeed Motorsports. Sanders went on to
say “MS is a disease that strikes over 200 people each
week in the U.S. and Mazdaspeed Motorsports is proud
to be part of the effort to find a cure.”
The Region had planned numerous non-race activities as
part of the charity drive. On Sunday and Monday, for a
$20 donation, per car, spectators will be able to
take laps of Summit Point behind a pace car. Saturday
evening will see a charity auction with a wide variety
of items available and, on Sunday evening, The
Frederick Under the Sun BMX Stunt Team will perform.
Admission is $25, free for children under 12. For more
information, contact call (304) 725-8444.
