RACE NOTES (courtesy of SCCA Pro Racing):

 * Bill Auberlen, driver of the No. 93 H&R Springs/Turner Motorsports BMW
325i, was running fourth when he and third-place Jeff Altenburg, of Ellicott
Md., made contact on lap one at turn 12. As a result of the contact,
Auberlen spun around and the entire field passed him. Not to be denied,
Auberlen put on an impressive driving display that saw him climb from 34th
position to the podium.

³We were along side each other and I was kind of the loser of the deal,²
said Auberlen describing his incident with Altenburg. ³I went from third or
fourth to dead last. I was thinking, ŒI have a long way to go.¹ I got to
about 22nd and thought I can¹t even catch these guys. I just kept chipping
away and wound up in the front.²

* Auberlen now has a 61-point lead in Speed Touring Car Drivers¹
Championship, with 206 points, followed by Pierre Kleinubing (145 points),
Will Turner (133), Roger Foo (127) and Ken Dobson (113).

* BMW maintains the lead in the Speed Touring Manufacturers¹ Championship
Presented by Racer Magazine, with 53 points, followed by Acura (39 points),
Mazda (26), Lexus (18), Nissan (14) and Audi (7).

* The SCCA Speed World Challenge GT and Touring Car Championships head to
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca Sept. 5-7 for the Monterey Sports Car
Championships in Monterey, Calif.

* This Aug. 23 race will initially air at 2:00 p.m. (EDT) Saturday, Sept. 6
on Speed Channel.
