New Arrow XT Fire Chassis For Suburban and Metropolitan Departments

OSHKOSH, Wis. Aug. 22, 2003--Oshkosh Truck Corporation announced today that its subsidiary, Pierce Manufacturing Inc., North America's leading manufacturer of custom fire apparatus, has unveiled the new Arrow XT(TM), a custom fire chassis designed to meet the specialized needs of high-run suburban and metropolitan departments. The Arrow XT is available for pumper, rescue, ladder and platform configurations. The new chassis' namesake is the legendary Arrow, Pierce's first custom fire chassis introduced in 1979 and in use with many urban departments across the United States today. "Pierce continues to lead the fire industry in new product and technology development. The Arrow XT chassis is the latest evidence of our commitment to providing the best customized apparatus for each department's unique needs," said Robert G. Bohn, Oshkosh's chairman, president and chief executive officer.

"This new chassis is designed to stand up to big city fire departments that make thousands of runs each year. It's engineered and built to provide rugged, reliable performance year after year. For departments looking for a no-nonsense, urban workhorse, this is it," explained Bohn.

From its massive 13-and 3/8-inch carbon steel frame rails to its 500-horsepower Detroit Diesel engine and super-sized 1404-square-inch radiator, the Arrow XT is equipped to tackle the most demanding municipal environments with outstanding reliability. The cab is rugged, roomy and durable with expansive gear stowage space and a no-nonsense painted aluminum dash.

A 15-degree front and rear angle of approach, 45-degree cramp angle and 13-inch ground clearance enable the Arrow XT to maneuver through the tightest situations and get closer to the scene. In addition, the chassis comes standard with TAK-4(TM) independent front suspension, which delivers greater maneuverability, shorter stopping distances and SUV-like ride quality.
