Terry Borcheller - Road America

Olympic effort

Terry Borcheller has a long history at Road America, site of the Aug. 24 
American Le Mans Series race. The Phoenix driver has raced on the 4.048-mile road 
course in Elkhart Lake, Wis., since 1980.  He started in go-karts, racing with 
his father.  He has vivid memories of fast times on the high-speed track.

"I did the karting Olympics there and finished third," he recalled.  "It was 
really cool when I was 14, just how fast I was going.  The junior karts were 
unrestricted and we were faster than the senior class, with two-cycle motors.  
I was going 120 miles an hour in a go-kart!"

Borcheller and Shane Lewis of Jupiter, Fla., will drive the No. 63 ACEMCO 
Motorsports Ferrari 360 Modena GT in this week's ALMS race.

Road America was part of two of Borcheller's five professional driving 
championships.  He set the qualifying record for the World Challenge T1 class at 
Road America in 1998, won the race and went on to win the T1 driver title.  In 
2000, he topped the GTO class in the Grand American Road Racing Championship 
event at Road America en route to the series GTO championship.

Road America is known for its picturesque location, warm hospitality and 
tasty track food.  Borcheller's fans take full advantage of the event.  "There are 
always a lot of fans there," he noted.  "Since I've been racing there so 
long, over the years I've got to meet some of my fans who come to camp every year. 
 They usually barbecue and invite me out to have hamburgers with them.  It's 
great!"

Borcheller returned to the Victory Racing Camp in Portland on Aug. 19, 
offering insight and support to 24 teenagers.  Those who asked the best questions 
were rewarded with signed K&N Performance Filters t-shirts, and the winning 
go-kart team received signed K&N autograph cards.

The American Le  Mans Series race is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 24 from 1 pm 
to 3:45 pm CT (2 pm to 4:45 pm ET) on the 4.048-mile Road America road course 
in Elkhart Lake, Wis.  The race will be televised live on SPEED Channel 
starting at 1 pm CT / 2 pm ET.
