The Bing Group Wins Third GM Supplier of the Year Honor

New Recognition Highlights Banner Year of Commitment to Customers And Community

DETROIT, Aug. 20 -- The Bing Group (Bing), a leading Detroit- based automotive supplier headquartered in the Empowerment Zone, today announced it was named 2002 General Motors Corp. (GM) Supplier of the Year for excellence in the Bing Metals, Stamp and Assembly division. The three-time winner will host an open house and award ceremony in celebration of its honor on Thursday, Aug. 21 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bing Group main campus located at 11500 Oakland Avenue in Detroit.

"Clearly, being named supplier of the year for the third time reflects our commitment to providing quality parts and excellent customer service," said Dave Bing, chairman and CEO, The Bing Group. "We are extremely proud to once again receive this honor and will continue to focus on world class, industry best practices."

The award adds to a banner year of accomplishments for the automotive supplier.

Among Bing's other recent accomplishments is the successful grand opening of the Oakland East North Development Project. When completed, the project will result in 40 new homes in the areas surrounding The Bing Group manufacturing facility.

Additionally, Bing recently held a graduation ceremony for its first group of employees to complete the "Keys to Your Financial Future" program. Facilitated by GMAC Mortgage and Freddie Mac, the project is designed to help minorities realize the goal of home ownership.

Among other programs in-place at Bing is the Supplier Appreciation Program. The Bing Group in collaboration with General Motors and key minority suppliers, are working together offering incentives on new General Motors vehicles to employees to stimulate auto sales.

Also, the Detroit Manufacturing Training Center, located on the Bing campus, provides hands-on training preparing more than 500 potential employees each year for employment positions with automotive suppliers. The center recently received a grant from National City Bank of Michigan/Illinois to continue this effort.
