Shane Lewis Eager to Learn from Road America Double-Duty

ELKHART LAKE, Wis., August 20, 2003 – Shane Lewis, driver of the No. 63
ACEMCO Automotive/ Yokohama Tire Ferrari 360 GT Modena in American Le
Mans Series (ALMS) competition, announced this week that he will also
drive for ARC Racing in the SCCA Pro Racing Speed World Challenge
Championships at Road America. While racing in two series in one the
weekend offers unique challenges, the Jupiter, Florida-resident believes
that the benefits will outweigh the trials. The multi-time ALMS podium
finisher and three-time Speed World Challenge winner anticipates that
the double-duty in the ALMS GT class Ferrari and Speed Touring class
Mazda Protégé will make both the ACMECO ALMS effort and the ARC Speed
Touring Car entry much more competitive over the course of the weekend.
While the ALMS is a dual-driver format where Lewis will co-drive with
Phoenix, Arizona’s Terry Borcheller, the Speed Touring class is a single
driver arrangement. Lewis will be able to take advantage of an
additional two hours and 30-minutes of track time as well as a full day
of testing on Thursday.

“I love racing,” offered Lewis for his reason to run in both series at
Road America and Laguna Seca in two weeks. “It is pretty simple. This is
what I do, this is what I love. If I have an opportunity to be
competitive, I’m going to take it. The more you’re in the car, the more
you learn and the more you can take back to the other car to make it
better. The NASCAR guys know that. That’s why you see so many Cup guys
running Busch every weekend. Seat time at a place like Road America,
even though I have a lot of experience racing cars, is huge. Everything
I learn in the Ferrari I can take to the Mazda and it works the other
way around too. We have been on a serious learning curve with the
Ferrari so my hope is that by racing in the World Challenge Series I’ll
be able to bring a fresh perspective back to the ACEMCO guys. Sure, I am
doing it for the selfish reason that I just love to race but, I’m not
just feeding you a line about it helping both teams.”

The two hour and 45 minute ALMS event will be broadcast live on SPEED
Channel at 2 pm (EDT) on Sunday, August 24.  The 50-minute Speed Touring
event will be broadcast on SPEED, September 6 at 1 pm (EDT). 

Shane Lewis is the 1998 Professional Sports Car Racing Rising Star award
winner and is a multiple race winner in IMSA, SCCA Pro and Grand-Am
sanctioned events. He has raced in three 24 Hours of Le Mans, six 24
Hours of Daytona, seven 12 Hours of Sebring and four Petit Le Mans.
Lewis is a regular top-five finisher in ALMS competition and is one of
the few drivers with experience in the four major classes of
international sports car racing (LMP 900, LMP 675, GTS and GT). He
drives the ACEMCO Motorsports Ferrari 360 GT Modena in the ALMS and the
Nuzzo Motorsports Mini Cooper S in Grand-Am Cup.
