Championships
Nine National classes get new champions

MOSPORT, ONTARIO - Over 250 of the best karters in Canada descended on
Mosport International Raceway to contest the Sunoco Presents the GM Racing
2003 ASN Canada FIA National Karting Championships on August 15-17. By
Sunday afternoon, Canada had nine new champions.

In the Headline Formula Senior class, Fonthill Ontario's Matt Champagne
took the win over BC's Jordy Vorrath and Ontario's Mike Roth. Formula
Junior was a hectic battle between Ontario drivers Robert Wickens and
Daniel Morad. Wickens took the win with Morad second, while Quebec's Jesse
Labbe came home third.

In ICA, Vorrath had the pole, but a fuel problem in the pre final sent him
to the back for the final. Vorrath drove to the front in the final, only to
have a tire go flat. The win went to his Ital Kart teammate Tyler Dueck,
who took the lead in the last corner of the last lap when leader Chase
Williams went wide into the dirt. Williams rebounded for second and
Quebec's Jean Francois Seguin was third. In JICA, Quebec drivers Samuel
Charland and Xavier Coupal finished one-two. Rounding out the podium was
BC's Nicholas Tonkin.

The RotaxMax challenge win went to Ontario's Shawn Gardner, who will be one
of the drivers to represent Canada in the RotaxMax Grand Finals in Egypt at
the end of January 2004. Behind Gardner came Quebec drivers Jean Francois
Valour and Sylvain Ruel. In the RotaxMaxJunior race, Christophe Boisclair
took the win ahead of Antoine Genest and Maxime Pelletier.

In the four stroke classes, Justin Mascoll dominated the Briggs and
Stratton World Formula class, leading a trio of Ontario drivers to the
flag. Second went to Stefano Romano, with Rob Oakman third.

Canada Senior was won by Marc Stehle. He led fellow Ontario drivers Kris
Martin and Michael Patrizi to the flag. In Canada Junior, the title went to
Ontario's Pearce Herder by a scant 0.002 of a second. Keaton Doerksen and
Daniel Morad - both from Ontario - rounded out the podium.

The final class, the Mosport Kart Club Junior Challenge went to Michael
Dimeo. Jim Souch, Tyler MacLeod, Michael Bachand and Tyler Brown rounded
out the top five.

Special awards went to Saskatoon's Scott Campbell, who took home the GM
Racing Winner's Circle Award for outstanding competition skills and
sportsmanship. Italian Motors took home the Pratt & Miller Team Spirit
Award for the team the displays the highest levels of teamwork in the areas
of presentation, preparation and results.

The final special award was the selection of two drivers to attend the
Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship presented by Toronto Star Wheels
Evaluation Day that will be held later this year. Ontario drivers Travis
Walker and Kris Martin were selected based on their performances during the
weekend.
