Terry Borcheller - Mosport race
fast adjustment
Terry Borcheller finished eighth in GT in the American Le Mans Series race at
Mosport International Raceway on Sunday. The Phoenix driver said he had to
adjust on the fly to max results for the No. 63 ACEMCO Motorsports Ferrari 360
Modena GT he drives with Shane Lewis of Jupiter, Fla.
Lewis qualified 10th in class with a time of one minute 22.393 seconds on the
2.459-mile road course. He drove the first stint of the two-hour 45-minute
race, but was hampered by a gearbox problem. He also lost a lap because of his
track position when the first caution period started. Borcheller took the
wheel for the final hour and finished eighth.
"We had a problem with the gearbox," Borcheller explained. "When we went
over a specific rpm shifting from third to fourth, it would shoot to sixth gear.
Shane relayed the gearbox information to me, so I was able to deal with the
problem a lot better. Once we figured out the rpm, we could shift each gear
without the car jumping to sixth. Everyone did a great job and the pit stops
were fantastic. It was just a very frustrating result."
broken records
Borcheller saw two of his track records erased during the 2003 ALMS race
weekend at Mosport. Corvette driver Oliver Gavin turned a record qualifying lap
in the GTS class, out-pacing the record set by Borcheller in 2002. And the
Prodrive Ferrari topped Borcheller's 2001 race-lap record.
next
Borcheller will compete in the American Le Mans Series race at Road America
in Elkhart Lake, Wis., on Sunday, Aug. 24.
