Terry Borcheller - Mosport race
threes
Terry Borcheller returns to Canada this week for the American Le Mans Series
race at Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ont. Borcheller, of
Phoenix, and Shane Lewis of Jupiter, Fla., will drive the No. 63 ACEMCO
Motorsports Ferrari 360 Modena GT.
The Mosport race will be the third for Borcheller and Lewis as a driving
pair. They showed their strength with a third-place GT finish in the ALMS race at
Trois-Rivières, Qué., on Aug. 3.
"We've had Jim Bell engineering the car, starting at Sears Point [in July],"
Borcheller said. "With him not knowing the car, we weren't where we wanted to
be at Sears Point, but we definitely got there at Trois-Rivières. We're
going into Mosport with a good baseline setup. Hopefully we will be able to tune
it to speed because of the work we've done over the last couple of races."
winning strategy
Borcheller has one win on the challenging 2.459-mile Mosport road course,
driving a BMW M3 in a Professional Sports Car Racing event in 1998. He says it's
a driver's track.
"The Mosport track is one of my favorites because it's very technical," he
explained. "It has a lot of elevation changes and it's a momentum track, it's
very fast. There are a couple of areas that - if you've got it nailed - will
gain you some time. A lot of race tracks don't have segments or turns that set
drivers apart, but this race track definitely has that. Also, because of the
technical nature and because of the momentum, there are typically a lot of
issues with traffic, so I think we have a decent chance to finish in the
top-five, even though we're not as fast as the Porsches."
