Solectron Receives Automotive Quality Certification at Sites in Germany and Romania

MILPITAS, Calif.--Aug. 1, 20033, 2003--Solectron Corporation , a leading provider of electronics manufacturing and supply-chain management services, said today it has received the ISO/TS 16949 certification, an internationally recognized automotive quality standard, at its sites in Herrenberg, Germany, and Timisoara, Romania.

The company also recently received ISO/TS 16949 certification at sites in Scarborough, Canada, and Guadalajara, Mexico. The certifications strengthen Solectron's position as a leading supplier to the global automotive electronics industry and expand to 17 the number of Solectron facilities with ISO/TS 16949 and/or QS 9000.

ISO/TS 16949 was developed jointly by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), a worldwide federation of international standards, and the International Automotive Task Force (IATF). The IATF consists of an international group of automotive manufacturers and national automotive associations including DaimlerChrysler AG, Ford Motor Company, General Motors Corporation, BMW and Volkswagen. ISO/TS 16949 will replace the QS 9000 certification, the automotive supplier quality standard, by 2006. The ISO family of international quality management standards and guidelines has earned a global reputation as the basis for establishing quality management systems.

"Quality is one of the foremost priorities for our European customers, and we are very pleased to have added sites in Germany and Romania with ISO/TS 16949 certification," said Brian Antell, senior vice president of Solectron MicroSystems. "The certification will help us capture the fast growing automotive electronics market, which is projected to grow in Europe at 9 percent annually through 2006. With Solectron's technology, footprint, automotive expertise and quality services, we are positioned to be the partner of choice for automotive customers."
