AFL Brazil Receives the ``Voluntarios das Gerais'' Award
ALLEN PARK, Mich.--Aug. 7, 2003--AFL Brazil, a part of Alcoa Inc. , received the "Voluntarios das Gerais" award from the State of Minas Gerais FIEMG and SESI Minas organizations in a ceremony held in Belo Horizonte, MG Brazil.The "Voluntarios das Gerais" award recognizes voluntary actions conducted in the state of Minas Gerais. It is awarded annually to individuals, companies and schools throughout the state in 10 categories. AFL Brazil in competition with 150 other companies, received the award in the category of 500-plus employees for the Alcoa Foundation BRAVO program.
The Alcoa BRAVO program is an employee engagement program managed by the Alcoa Foundation. Its purpose is to recognize the volunteer efforts of individual employees in their communities. Once an Alcoa employee volunteers at least 50 hours a year at a charitable organization, a $250 grant is awarded to that organization.
This award was presented by Mr. Luis Eduardo Penido, President of Citizenship Council of FIEMG Organization and "Voluntarios das Gerais", to Celia Aparecida de Oliveira, Human Resources Manager of AFL Brazil. In her acceptance, Celia said, "AFL is proud to receive such an award, a recognition to the company's social accountability work and to those who donate part of their lives to help minimize social problems. The participation of our employees is very important and this award is an incentive to keep our partnership with the community."
