Delco Remy's Poland Facility Serves as an Example of Lean Manufacturing for Politechnika Wroclawska University's Conference
ANDERSON, Ind., Aug. 6, 2003 -- The Delco Remy operation in Swidnica, Poland was recently selected as a demonstration facility for the third annual Lean Manufacturing Conference.
This conference was co-sponsored by Politechnika Wroclawska University of Technology and by James P. Womack's Lean Enterprise Institute. This conference had over 200 attendees from Eastern Europe and included attendees from companies like Valeo, Toyota, Delphi, Carrier, Pratt Whitney, Visteon, Eaton, Husky, Bosh, Polar and Aerotech.
Womack is one of the authors of the best selling book, "The Machine that Changed the World" and "Lean Thinking." Delco Remy's history with Womack includes a visit to the World Headquarters in Anderson, Indiana in 1999 to participate in lean training for all of Delco Remy's global executive team. Janusz Szostak, president of Delco Remy Poland stated, "We were honored to help sponsor this event and share the results of our work with Mr. Womack and conference attendees."
The Delco Remy facility in Poland, acquired in March of 2000, was used to demonstrate the achievements of a lean organization. The areas reviewed were manufacturing cells, material continuous flow, pull-systems, standardized work and other lean manufacturing metrics. Professor Koch of the Politechnika Wroclawska told conference attendees, "Delco Remy Poland is one of the better examples of lean manufacturing in Poland."
The Politechnika Wroclawska University of Technology is one of the European Commission's Centers of Excellence. In June of 2000, Newsweek cited Politechnika Wroclawska University as Europe's hidden gem and Poland's investment magnet.
