LUIS DIAZ QUALIFIES SIXTH AT TROIS-RIVIERES

TROIS-RIVIERES, Que., Canada (Aug 2, 2003) - The weather surprised
all by remaining dry but Luis Diaz, of Mexico City, didn't surprise anybody
with another strong performance and a sixth place final qualifying position
for Sunday's eighth round of 12-race Toyota Atlantic Championship from the
Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres.

The 45-lap (68.445 mile) sprint around the historic 1.521-mile,
10-turn temporary street circuit is set to begin Sunday, Aug. 3, at 1:00
p.m. (ET)

Saturday's 30-minute morning practice began on schedule at 9:10
a.m. (ET) and no major incidents were reported.. Skies were comfortably
overcast and cooler than Friday with an ambient temperature of 69 degrees
and a track temperature of 74 degrees Fahrenheit.

Diaz started strong and immediately began lowering his times from
the previous day's morning practice. By the end of the session, he was
sixth fastest overall at 1:00.439 (90.597 mph). The time differential
between second fastest A.J. Allmendinger and Diaz was a fraction over
six-tenths of a second.

The Canadian Weather Service predicted a 40 percent chance of rain
by the afternoon but it never showed. Rather, a sheet of cloud cover kept
temperatures in the mid-70's and lessened the humidity. Final qualifying
began as scheduled at 2:40 p.m. and concluded 30 minutes later without a
caution.

Diaz's final qualifying times consistently ranked with the fastest
cars. He ran as high as third fastest at one point but finished quick at
sixth overall behind a weekend best lap time of 1:00.231 (90.910 mph).

Allmendinger didn't go faster than his time from provisional
qualifying on Friday, but turned a lap quick enough to pace final
qualifying at 0:59.338 (92.278 mph) and top the leader board of 15
qualifiers. Starting second will be defending Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres
champion Michael Valiante.

Sunday's schedule at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres calls for a
15-minute warm-up session beginning at 8:45 a.m. ET, and will be followed
by Round Eight of the 2003 CART Toyota Atlantic Championship at 1:00 p.m.
ET. Live timing & scoring of the race will be available on the official web
site of the CART Toyota Atlantic Championship, www.toyotaatlantic.com.

Speed Channel will provide a LIVE telecast of the Toyota Atlantic
Championship race from Trois-Rivieres beginning at 1:00 p.m. ET (10:00 a.m.
PT), Sunday, Aug. 3.
