FRIDAY, AUGUST 1ST ­ POST-QUALIFYING
 

SCOTT PRUETT, DRIVER OF THE NO. 7 JAGUAR R PERFORMANCE XKR, QUALIFIED ON THE
POLE FOR TOMORROW¹S TRANS-AM RACE WITH A TIME OF 1:03:890ŠTHIS IS HIS SIXTH
POLE IN 2003.

 

NOTE 1 ­ TROIS-RIVIERES STATSŠPruett has only one previous start hereŠSingle
start was in 1994 when he qualified second and finished 10th.

NOTE 2 ­ BACKGROUND STATSŠRanks first in the points standingsŠIn 2003, has
four wins (St. Petersburg, Mosport, Infineon Raceway, Cleveland)ŠRaced in
the NASCAR Winston Cup race at Infineon Raceway in June finishing 24th due
to contact while running sixthŠHas two Trans-Am Drivers¹ Championships
(1987, 1994)ŠIn 2002, did not compete in the Trans-Am SeriesŠCompeted in
Winston Cup in 2000ŠCompeted several seasons in CART Champ Car Series,
scoring two winsŠHas two IMSA GTO Drivers¹ Championships (1986, 1988).

On his qualifying effortŠ ³The track is fun; it¹s more fun than I remembered
from the last time.  Actually, we were a little disappointed. We thought
we¹d go quite a bit quicker.  We made some gears changes because we were on
the rev limiter pretty hard in top gear, and the guys were rushed.  I mean,
we barely made it out there (to qualify).  But we did, it wasn¹t the best,
but it was good enough to get the job done.  But we¹ll go back and work on
it and see if we can get a better race car.

³This will probably be our toughest race. My last race here was pretty
ugly.²

On the importance of qualifying up frontŠ ³It¹s very important to start here
in the front two rows.  Crazy things happen here, including rain.  If we¹re
not smart as drivers, someone back in fourth or fifth can get us at the end.
It¹s difficult to pass  and we run close together.  We know that to win this
race, you¹ve got to be there at the end, so we need to take care of the car,
specifically the tires and brakes.²
