DRIVER NOTES AND QUOTES
TRANS-AM SERIES FOR THE BFGOODRICH TIRES CUP
FRIDAY, AUGUST 1ST POST-QUALIFYING
JOHNNY MILLER, DRIVER OF THE NO. 64 EATON CUTLER-HAMMER JAGUAR XKR,
QUALIFIED SECOND FOR TOMORROW¹S TRANS-AM RACE WITH A TIME OF 1:04:057.
NOTE 1 TROIS-RIVIERES STATSŠMiller has five previous starts hereŠIn 2002,
he qualified sixth, was running second near the end of the race when his
engine expired and finished 12thŠBest finish third in 1999 after
qualifying fourth and leading Lap 37.
NOTE 2 BACKGROUND STATSŠRanks second in the points standingsŠIn 2003, has
one win (Lime Rock) and three additional top-three finishesŠMade his NASCAR
Winston Cup debut at Infineon Raceway in June, finishing 24th on the lead
lapŠIn 2002, finished fourth in the points standings with three top-three,
three top-five and four top-ten finishesŠIn 2000, scored his first career
Trans-Am win at San DiegoŠVoted ³Most Improved Driver² for 1998ŠWon the
³Rookie of the Year² title in 1996.
On his qualifying effortŠ ³This is a big improvement over the first session
and we still have a really loose car even on stickers (tires). I was able
to manage a couple of laps by moving sway bars during the lap and got a good
lap. I went back out and tried to get better, but I¹d already taken the good
out of the tires. I certainly didn¹t want to take a chance and wreck it.
So, OK, second is just fine. We¹re not far off the pole time. But we just
couldn¹t catch Scott (Pruett), so we¹ll have to race him tomorrow.
³The confidence deal I have is the car¹s not perfect yet, and we¹re pretty
quick. We¹ll get our car a little quicker, go better, and win the race.
We¹ll save the tires, save the brakes,
