MTS Awarded Powertrain Test System Contract by Honda

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., July 31 -- MTS Systems Corporation today announced that it has been awarded a $3 million plus contract by Honda Performance Development to supply complete powertrain test systems for Honda's Santa Clarita, Calif., race development facility. As part of a Honda expanded facility, MTS will supply complete dynamometer test systems for multiple test cells performing research and development for the customer's racing engines. The systems include dynamometers, conditioning systems and data acquisition and control equipment designed for fast-paced engine development.

In addition to traditional testing methodology, Honda will incorporate software simulation techniques from MTS giving them the ability to maximize power and efficiency of a new engine design under actual racetrack conditions.

"Honda Racing has a long history of success and is looking to continue that tradition by employing advanced testing techniques to improve the performance, reliability and predictability of their race engines," said Sidney W. Emery, Jr., MTS Chairman and CEO. "We expect the use of MTS's advanced simulation techniques in auto racing will be key to speeding development in an industry where progress needs to be measured in days as opposed to months. MTS's motorsports product offerings for both chassis and powertrain continue to be the solutions of choice for accelerating design and development programs," Emery said.

MTS has delivered over 1,500 powertrain testing systems to more than 300 customers worldwide and is a leading supplier in North America and the United Kingdom. The Company's powertrain customers include major vehicle manufacturers and suppliers.
