Local Governments Turn to Auto-Q to Fight Vehicle Crime
LONDON, July 29 -- Auto-Q International Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: AUTQ) , a leading provider of vehicle tracking and monitoring systems for trucking fleets and consumers, announced today the development of its business to local governments.
Local governments in the UK suffering from increasing levels of vehicle theft are tackling the problem with the aid of FleetTrak, the track-and-trace system developed by asset monitoring specialist Auto-Q.
FleetTrak features a compact 'black box', concealed within the vehicle, which uses GPS technology and GSM signalling to report unauthorised movement and track the vehicle, if necessary with the aid of the Internet. The owner can then alert police to help recover the vehicle before it can be stripped down or driven abroad.
A council in South Wales decided to invest in a tracking system after repeated thefts of tipper trucks from its fleet. It selected FleetTrak after trailing five track-and-trace systems, having been impressed particularly by its Internet monitoring capability. While it was still rolling out the system four trucks were stolen. However, one had already had FleetTrak fitted -- it was located immediately and recovered with the help of the police.
The council now has FleetTrak fitted to all its 80 vehicles, including vans and mini-buses, and there have been no further thefts. It is also using FleetTrak to track routine vehicle movements so that it can check how and where drivers have been operating, and to combat spurious claims from people alleging that a council vehicle has caused damage.
Tom Lam, Chairman of Auto-Q, said, "There are a number of local governments in the UK that are currently trailing our FleetTrak system and we expect to receive a growing number of orders in the coming few months."
FLEETTRAK
FleetTrak is a complete 'black box' asset management tool. Data transmitted from the cab enables a fleet operator to monitor position, direction, speed, fuel flow, engine speed and braking, painting a complete picture of what the vehicle is doing and how it is being driven. The data can be used to compile regular vehicle management reports, revealing how both vehicle and driver are performing. An optional in-cab monitor enables the drivers to use the data themselves to improve their driving. FleetTrak users report a 5-10% fuel saving across a typical mixed fleet, and the system provides the operator with a safeguard against risky or impatient driving and the potentially disastrous results.
