Tomy Drissi Looks for a Repeat Podium Finish in the Grand
Prix de Trois-Rivires
TROIS-RIVIÈRES, Quebec - 2000 Trans-Am Series for the BFGoodrich Tires® Cup
³Most Improved Driver,² Tomy Drissi, intends to repeat his podium
performance when the Trans-Am Series returns for the Grand Prix de
Trois-Rivières on Aug. 1-2. Last year, in just his second appearance on the
challenging street circuit, Drissi finished third in his best effort of
2002.
Once again, Drissi, who drives the No. 5 Stuck on You, The Movie Jaguar XKR,
is looking to make his race at Trois-Rivières his best to date this season.
³We¹ve had some bad luck this year and Trois-Rivières is the place where I¹d
like to turn it around,² explained Drissi, who has two top-ten finishes thus
far, posting his highest finish of sixth place at Lime Rock Park. ³We had a
really good race last time. I¹ve got the same team and the same car, so
we¹ll see what we can get this time.²
Drissi, who is currently 10th in points, has his sights set on the top spot
on the podium this time. ³The tough breaks we¹ve had this season will keep
us out of the title hunt,² continued Drissi. ³I¹m not racing for points
here; I¹m racing for the win. I¹d really like to get that Hollywood
ending!²
Drissi is looking forward to his return to the demanding street circuit.
³This is a tight and bumpy track that demands the utmost from both the car
and the driver. To be successful here, you need to understand your car¹s
capabilities and how to best nurture the nuances of the track.
³There are passing opportunities here, if you¹ve got the nerve,² added
Drissi. ³For instance, Turn 1 is deceivingly wide and it¹ll suck you in.
But you better protect the inside or you¹ll lose any real estate you
gained.²
To Drissi, Trois-Rivières is much more than just a race track. ³I love this
city and the people here. I just feed off their energy. The whole city is
thinking about and supporting the race. For me, that takes it to the
highest level. It actually makes me more focused on my racing and the need
to perform well,² concluded Drissi.
Round 7 of the Trans-Am Series for the BFGoodrich Tires® Cup will be
broadcast live on SPEED Channel on Saturday, Aug. 2, at 1 p.m. Eastern.
